A psychologist based in Little Rock has been indicted on federal charges for allegedly defrauding Medicare and Arkansas Blue Cross & Blue Shield of over $500,000. The indictment claims that between 2021 and 2023, the psychologist submitted fraudulent billing for psychotherapy sessions that never took place. Disturbingly, some of these claims were reportedly made for patients who were deceased at the time of billing.
This case highlights the ongoing issues of healthcare fraud, which not only impacts insurance companies but also places a burden on the healthcare system as a whole. The allegations suggest a systematic approach to deception, raising concerns about the integrity of mental health services in the region. Authorities are taking these charges seriously, and the case may serve as a cautionary tale for other healthcare providers. The psychologist now faces significant legal challenges as the investigation continues into the extent of the fraudulent activities.
