Meet David Davis and David Davis, a father and son psychology team

This weekend, Russell Sage College will see a unique milestone: two graduates sharing the same name. David Davis and his son, also named David Davis, will both receive their degrees, marking the end of a shared academic journey in psychology.

The elder Davis, a father of three, decided to return to school later in life, inspired by his son's interest in the field. The younger Davis, meanwhile, pursued his studies with a focus on clinical psychology. Their overlapping schedules meant they often found themselves in the same classes, studying the same material, and even quizzing each other before exams.

"It was strange at first, having my dad in the same lecture hall," the younger David said. "But it turned into a great support system. We kept each other accountable."

The father admitted that the experience strengthened their bond. "We got to see each other in a new light," he said. "It was a challenge, but we pushed through it together."

Both Davids plan to continue their work in mental health, with the father aiming to counsel veterans and the son pursuing a career in child psychology. Their graduation caps will bear the same name, but their paths forward are distinctly their own.
